Nineteen rules for finding what broke — the whole method, with the reason under each.
The way a working hand actually finds a fault, set down as a form of attention: one law per rule, and the reason it holds underneath. It reads in a sitting.
Every trade has a moment where a machine breaks and, before anyone has looked, there is already a story. It's the sensor. It's always the sensor. The stories come fast and wear the clothes of experience. Some are even right. But a story that lands before the work is done is not knowledge yet — it's a guess, and luck is a bad thing to build a trade on.
The Diagnostic Code is the opposite motion, written down. Not what usually breaks, but a stance held before the guess even comes: attend to the failure in front of you, let the case be generated by the machine rather than fetched from memory, and let fit and proof decide among whatever your experience supplies. One faculty runs under all nineteen rules — recognition, not recall.
Movement IV · Take the Stairs
Don't leap to the root. Make each proved-failed function the next function to diagnose, and step down exactly one floor — only where the last floor earned it.
Why. The Fixer stands on the roof and calls the basement — names a root on sight, because a root is a shape he carries. Descending keeps you receiving: you only ever ask the small honest question, this failed; what does it need?, and each floor must show on a meter before you step down.
